Fall Gardens: What's Still Growing Strong
Fall's a funny time in the garden. You'd think everything would just pack it in, but if you look close, there's still real life happening out there.
Root vegetables love this season—carrots, beets, and turnips get sweeter as the soil cools down. Kale and other leafy greens? They're just getting started. A light frost actually makes them taste better.
If you've got herbs like parsley and dill hanging on, they'll keep going longer than you'd expect. Same with some hardy lettuces. The key is not asking too much of them—they know what they're doing.
Fall's also the time to think ahead. Mulching the beds, getting compost turned in, letting the soil rest a bit. It's honest work, and it pays off next spring.
There's something real about working with what the season gives you. No shortcuts, just patience and good soil.
